  • Offbeat Asian Locations You Can Travel To

The more I learn about Asia, the more I realize my knowledge is limited. This is the only continent that will continue to surprise you, no matter how well-travelled you are. I think if there is one heaven on earth for travelers, it has to be Asia. Today, I will talk about some awesome offbeat destinations in Asia that you must visit soon.

    Sabah, Malaysia

There is no better place than Sabah if you want to experience the real, untouched tropical beauty of Malaysia. It is the eastern frontier of Malaysia and is often referred to as the ‘Land below the Wind’ simply because of its proximity to the typhoon prone region in the Philippines. The place is frequented by people looking for an adventure, including divers and mountaineers.

If you like adventure activities, Sabah is a great place to be.  Take a deep breath before you dive in the waters of the Sipadan Island. It is one of the best places in the world to scuba dive and you will love to move freely underwater with turtles and hundreds of small tropical fish. You will be lucky if you come across the parrothead fish or the white tip reef sharks in this region.

You can climb Mt. Kinabalu too. Another great option will be a river cruise down the Kinabatangan. If you want to see rhinos, elephants and orangutans roaming freely in the jungles, this cruise is a must for you.

    Halong Bay, Vietnam

Will it not be fun looking at a thousand islands that stretch across the 120-km coastline of the Bai Chay Beach? Halong literally translates to the ‘where the dragon descends into the sea’. When you come here, you will find the islands dotting the coastline like little dragons submerging in the sea. These stone islands are not just pretty but are also creating hundreds of caves, full of natural beauty and life. This is the reason why it is a UNESCRO World Heritage Site as well.

The most interesting thing about these islands is that their shape changes depending on the angle at which you view them or how light falls on them. The rich and extensive cave system of this region is a sight to behold for a lifetime. Couple this with small mountains and crystal-clear waters, and you have one of the best destinations in Asia.

    Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Wat is actually an ancient temple in Cambodia that sits in its majestic glory on a 500-acre site. The temple was dedicated to Vishnu, a Hindu god, considered the nurturer of the world. It is considered that the Angkor Wat is the earthly model of the entire cosmos. It brings the best of Khmer architecture to the world. You will find a beautifully synchronization of nature and human excellence in this temple. It could be a life changing event to witness such grand and beautiful architecture that has stood the test of time.

These were three offbeat destinations in Asia that you can travel to. They will definitely provide you the most unique travel experiences and help you imbibe the beauty of Asia a little more.
